For the last two decades that i have manage to live
in this world, no decade has manage to astonish me than this decade. with Global
Warming, Donald Trump , BREXIT, Black Lives Matters, ISIS, Africa Stagnation
and many other dramatic events and agendas. It looks like the world is in a
magnificent transformation it has yet ever experience before. I mean don't get
me wrong, I am not a hardcore conservative neither a liberal, but back then it
was clear the only enemy was the Soviets or the Communists. But now days you'll
hear a lot of things often confusing.
So,
is the world changing or are the people changing? Are we growing smarter or are
we going dumber? Are we all equal or there is a difference?
Human being history have been the history of wars,
conquest, hunger, diseases, intellectual and economic superiority. Led by the
big super powers such as USA, Russia and now China at their realm.
Human
beings been the most intelligent living thing, has failed over and over to come
together and actually figure out what is our purpose in this world or who and
what is our real enemy. Is it diseases and illiteracy or it is ourselves?
If
you read our history and get into facts there is no a significant amount of
positive outcome that has bloom out of our existence in this world. Yes it is
true that there are some benefits but it is not good enough. We fight ourselves
fiercely than we fight diseases and hunger. We fight hard for profit with no
moral sympathy.
The
concept of a sustainable civilization seems impossible, we fight and become
resilient when our scientists and politicians state that global warming is a
major issue. We don’t want solutions because it too expensive and too hard to
do it. We brand the people who want a sustainable society as “anti-business” or
“radicals”.
Political and economic ideologies
Out
of these two intellectual ideas we humans have coined the term "Progress" we tend to measure our
existence in-term of pre-established code of standards and mathematical models
in which some of us we call "development". But i think it is about
time that we go back and rethink again if it is a substantial idea to do so or
we all got it wrong and we have lost our purpose.
Over population
What
is the real costs of our progressive ideas such as globalization and
industrialization? Does the costs outweigh the benefits or its vice-versa, we
cut down trees, we are still slaying each other, we have mechanize fishing, we
pollute the environment all of this and more for our economic objectives.
Clearly we don’t save this earth because the fact is humans are the users of
natural resources and the earth is the producer of those limited natural
resources which takes millions of years to be developed and yet we exploit them
without thinking of the future of this planets and its inhabitants, OUR FUTURE.
Population
pressure, pressure on natural resources and diseases will not be solved when
they will occur rather they have to be prevented from occurring in the first
place. Let it be HIV/AIDS, Ebola or Zika Virus, handling these diseases should
not be an economic question rather a moral issue, no one should make money out
of saving lives.
Furthermore the world’s population has nearly
doubled for the last 45 years. The availability of natural resources and the
demands of billions of humans who require them for their survival is greater.
Yet the stocks of natural resources that support human life such as food, fresh
water, quality soil, energy, and biodiversity-are being polluted, degraded, and
depleted.
Just imagine the world’s population right now
is at 7 Billion people and with the available resources we still can’t feed all
people. What will happen when the world’s population reaches 9 billion mark or
even 12 billion people by 2050?
In my views I
think the world is not a fixed arena, it is rather “an evolution showground”
meaning the world changes over a period of time and its habitants also change. It
is about time that this world has to adopt new sustainable ideas and
sustainable strategies for the sake of our own existence, it’s time to face our
real enemies (hunger, diseases, and illiteracy) as a united force rather than
individuals.
The world needs
a new agenda, and the sustainability and peace than economic objectives is the
agenda. Be political, Social, Economic or Cultural sustainability. The costs of
progress are higher than the costs of sustainability, also the benefits of
sustainability overshadows those of progress in the long run.
Rethink!
